The Gerald Hotel

Project brief

The Gerald Hotel is to be a 4.5-star boutique hotel situated in Geraldton, Western Australia, 4.5 hours north of Perth, it will be the only high-rise in town. The website should promote the beautiful town with kite-surfing and fishing etc, and the hotel is considered another of Geraldton's special attractions.

Project goals

A story needed to be told that would intrigue the viewer and excite the potential guest about exploring the destination. In other words, the website needed more than just a pretty face; it needed the brand's personality. The new responsive website explores the gorgeous local imagery while providing a great user experience from desktop to mobile devices.

Outcomes

A minimal, clean website for a luxury hotel, featuring plenty of animated treats, a full-screen menu, and big parallax images. This site has received an honorable mention received from Awwwards, and also taken out 4 more certificates from the CSS Design Awards, Best UI Design, Best UX Design and Best Innovation. About me

My name is Bruno Silva. I’m a Designer based in Toronto currently working at Myplanet. Previously I worked as a senior designer for Ignite Online designing for clients like Explore Careers, Salesian School, Gerald Hotel and International Grammar School. And also for Westcon, where I was responsible for the design of their main digital products.

I am fortunate to have started working in the digital industry in 2002 when I was still in design school. During my career I've worked at studios, agencies, startups, and multinational corporations. I have a strong experience working holistically from UX/UI design to visual and creative direction.

To me, design is solving problems, and in my experience, a good result can't be achieved without first understanding the problem and then exhaustively exploring and iterating on design solutions.
